Start with one small step

Start with one small step

It's a plain and simple fact of life that in order to get anywhere, you need to know where you're going. If you want to visit a friend, you need to know where they live. If you want to change your life, you need to know what the new version *could* look like. Whether it plays out in exactly the way you imagined is another story. It just might turn out even better than your dreams!

Creating a vision of your life, if it were exactly as you want it in every way, is a great motivator. When you break down your vision into the 4 areas of career, money, fitness and personal goals, you can set benchmarks to measure your progress over time.

Planning is all well and good but goals only work if you do.The secret to achieving BIG goals is to start with small steps... and keep taking them.

Maybe you have a crazy amount of anxiety around your debt. Every time you look at your credit card statement, you have a mini melt down. This is a great example because in our purchase driven world, where we're always tempted to buy more and look cool, a lot of people are carrying consumer debt.

OK, so you know you want to be free from debt and pay off your card. You want to build savings and maybe buy a condo. Things are escalating quickly...! These types of goals are awesome and completely within the realm of possibility.

All you can do right now is take one step forward. Commit to one action that you can take today.

For example, you could do one of the following right now:

  • Take 2 minutes and calculate how much you owe on the one card that stresses you out the most

  • Assess your monthly spending for areas that you can reduce consumption

  • Make a money plan

  • Decide you won't buy anything except necessities for a month to really understand who is influencing your purchasing decisions

  • Read this post on debt. Get excited to log in to your online banking and face the numbers! Put them in excel! Feel the freedom in knowing you are committed to getting rid of debt!

  • Unfollow10 tempting social media accounts
